Is a Google or Microsoft-hosted account required to use Brokerkit?

Leveraging Brokerkit with a non-Google/Microsoft hosted email account

It is possible to use a Brokerkit account without a Google or Microsoft-hosted email, but you cannot use certain features detailed below. You will need a Google or Microsoft-hosted email account to fully use the Brokerkit email and calendar functions.

Brokerkit is designed to integrate with your Google or Microsoft email and calendar to minimize the need for double data entry, which is often the reason we stop using a CRM.

A few things to note on how the integration works:

  • Admin/staff users
    • As a Brokerkit user with the admin or staff role, when you log in on the signing page here, you should click Sign In with Google or Sign In with Microsoft and sign in with the same account set for your Brokerkit main email address for your user account.
    • Without a Google/Microsoft-hosted account, Brokerkit will still work but without certain features:
      • Login: You will not be able to single-sign in, but you can log in via your email and then set a password or request a magic login, which will email you a link to click on to access your account without an email/password.
      • Sending emails/Appointments:
        • You will be able to send bulk or campaign emails. If you set up the sending domain for your email domain, then the emails will be sent through our email services from your domain. If not, those emails will be sent "on behalf of" your domain, and the email deliverability will be lower than if you set up your sending domain.
        • You cannot send emails or appointments through the contact profile, as these emails are sent directly through your Google/Microsoft account. If you try to send emails this way, it will request that the user sign in with Google/Microsoft to enable the features.
  • Agent/Affiliate users
    • Since Agents and Affiliates don't have email/calendar CRM functionality (only the ability to refer and track referrals), a Google/Microsoft account is optional.
    • You can sign in with your Google/Microsoft account or enter your email on the login page, which will allow you to set a password. Alternatively, you can email yourself a magic login link, which you can click on to access your account without a username or password.

Things to note:

  • Types of accounts that will work:
    • Google: Google Workspace (branded) or Gmail (free)
    • Microsoft:
      • Office 365, outlook.com, or hotmail.com.
      • If you use Outlook with a hosted Exchange hosted by a 3rd party vs. Microsoft, the calendar/email integration will not work.
  • Note that free unbranded email accounts from Google or Microsoft do not allow you to set up email-sending domains, which are needed to optimize email deliverability.
  • Based on the way the integration is built, you will not be able to use an email alias to send emails from your Google/Microsoft account. You will need to log in with the primary email address for the account. Emails will be sent from, and replies will go to the primary account.

📝 Note: If you are using Microsoft Outlook as your email client, but the email is hosted by a provider like Rackspace or Godaddy instead of Microsoft, this will not work as Brokerkit needs to connect with the Microsoft APIs. This includes hosted Microsoft Exchange or POP/SMTP email.
